What we believe
We believe we can depend on God to tell us the truth. We highly recommend reading the whole Bible to find out what that is, but here is a short summary of some core elements of our belief.
The Bible is the Word of God.
It is God’s message to each of us, relevant to each human being in every age, land, and circumstance. God cannot lie, so it’s true.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God . . .2 Timothy 3:16, in hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began . . .Titus 1:2
God is the Creator of everything
He therefore has complete authority over the universe, including us. He is absolutely holy in his character and unlimited in his knowledge and power.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.Genesis 1:1, For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones."Isaiah 57:15, The eyes of the Lord are in every place, Keeping watch on the evil and the goodProverbs 15:3, Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You.Jeremiah 32:17
We have a sinful nature
It unfortunately produces many thoughts, words and deeds that are offensive to God.
As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one . . ."Romans 3:10, For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.Romans 3:22,23, Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—Romans 5:12
Sin
It is unacceptable to God and he will judge it.
God will judge the secrets of menRomans 2:16, For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.Romans 6:23, And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.Revelation 20:12
Salvation
Salvation from eternal judgment is only possible through the Lord Jesus Christ. Sinless himself, the Son of God became a man and voluntarily suffered for our sins on the cross. God his Father punished him for all the sins of mankind. We can contribute absolutely nothing to this great sacrifice, nor do we need to, because God is entirely satisfied with this finished work. We simply receive salvation as a free gift through faith in Christ alone. (more)
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.Isaiah 53:6, Jesus said to him, “ I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."John 14:6, Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.Acts 4:12, For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.Romans 6:23, For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.2 Corinthians 5:21
Jesus
He not only died, but rose from the dead, was seen by hundreds of eyewitnesses, and returned to heaven. He promised before he left that he would come back and take to heaven those who belong to him. (more)
Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and . . . He was buried, and . . . He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and . . . He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once . . .1 Corinthians 15:3-6, Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven.Luke 24:51, And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.John 14:3
The Holy Spirit
He was sent to earth after Jesus’ return to heaven and now lives within every true believer. This is why a Christian wants to please God and how they are able to do so.
But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.Romans 8:9
Baptism
It was commanded by the Lord Jesus Christ. Every person who has trusted him for salvation should demonstrate by this symbolic act the great reality of what happened when they were first saved. Immersion in water represents identification with Christ in his death, burial, and resurrection.
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.Matthew 28:19-20, Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.Romans 6:4-6
Fellowship
Fellowship with other believers is an important part of God’s plan for Christians. The source and focus of our church fellowship is the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. We find instructions for our gatherings in the Bible.
For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.Matthew 18:20, Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.Acts 2:41-42
