Regular Services
Sunday
THE LORD’S SUPPER
is also sometimes called the Breaking of Bread, and we observe this each Sunday morning at 9:30. This is a time when we respond to the command of the Lord Jesus Christ, when he met with his disciples in a Jerusalem upper room shortly before his death. “Do this in remembrance of me,” he instructed, as he gave them bread and wine to share. He taught them that the bread represented his physical body which would be given for them, and the cup of wine represented his blood which would soon be shed for the forgiveness of sins.
This service is a simple remembrance of him, consisting of hymns and prayers of worship, sharing the emblems of his body and blood, and brief remarks from the Bible. While all are welcome to attend and observe this service, participation is reserved for those who have entered the church fellowship. After this meeting closes we have coffee and snacks for all.
SUNDAY SCHOOL
begins at 11:15 every Sunday morning. This is a great time for kids from four years old and up to sing songs, learn important Bible truths from stories and verses, and engage in various activities appropriate to their age group. From 12:00 to 12:30, the kids are in classes based on age.
GOSPEL SERVICE
is Sunday morning at 11:30. It is thirty minutes dedicated to presenting the best news ever (“gospel” just means good news). You will hear the Bible’s great message of how a person can have peace with God, know that their sins are forgiven, and be sure that they are on the way to heaven.
BIBLE TEACHING
at 12:00 provides a wide range of Bible teaching on many passages and subjects. As we see in the New Testament, in a fully functioning church there will be more than one individual gifted by the Holy Spirit to teach and also to “shepherd” God’s people, so this teaching is given by a variety of speakers.
Wednesday
PRAYER AND BIBLE STUDY
On Wednesday nights at 7:30, we get together for prayer and Bible study. This hour begins with a hymn and goes by quickly. The name pretty much tells it all: we pray for the first half and study the Bible for the second half. We typically choose a book of the Bible to go through consecutively over several weeks, and the format is either one teacher for the entire group or a discussion style. According to the Bible’s teaching, the men in the church fellowship are the vocal participants. Often the discussion continues informally afterward.
