In the late 1800s, a little church composed of Scottish coal miners was formed in Coal City, Illinois.  As the coal mining industry declined, most of the members moved to Joliet for employment.  Through the years, they met in various locations in and around Joliet.  This was one of those early buildings.

This picture shows the old Will County Jail on Chicago Street, east of the old courthouse.  Bible meetings were held here for the benefit of the inmates.  This work continued on in the new Will County Detention Facility for many years.

This happy bunch of Joliet kids in 1954 learned Bible stories and songs and were on the receiving end of a lot of love. It has been the privilege of this church to serve the children of Joliet for many years.   Picnics, swimming pools and ice cream trucks have been many, but the purpose is still to simply share the truth of God with every child.

This building  was a rented schoolhouse at the corner of Washington Street and Route 30.  The church met here during the 1960s and 1970s.

In 1979, property on Route 6 near Parker Road was purchased in order to construct a new building. By the fall of 1981, the church was able to move in. The new building was called the New Lenox Gospel Hall, reflecting the ongoing intention to preach the Bible’s message of God’s good news, the gospel.

After more than 30 years in this location, the church was happy to realize that it was, by God’s grace, outgrowing this building. In 2015, it was sold to the Liberty Baptist congregation.
